SOUND AND STORY

SOUND AND STORY

JAM (Just A Minute) is a music series where artists

choose a location to perform and tell their story.

Episode 4
SABRINA SONG
(HAPPY TO BE HERE)

During the “9 to 5-style” recording sessions for her album, Sabrina Song stuck to a daily ritual: ordering the same sandwich from The Brooklyn Standard and enjoying it with her producer Ronnie at McGolrick Park in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

That routine became a comforting escape from the sometimes-grueling process of making a record. Here, she performs “Happy To Be Here” the only true love song she’s ever written, she says.

WE highlight the stories that bring an artist’s music to life and share them with you to enjoy.

Episode 3
PHONEBOY
(Better
than you)

“I feel like moving to New York upped the ante.”

Phoneboy, originally from New Jersey, is living together in NYC for the first time and JAM caught up with them in their Brooklyn apartment.

We strapped cameras to their foreheads as they navigated their tight living quarters and performed “Better Than You” from their individual bedrooms.

Episode 2
GYMSHORTS
(PMDD)

“The point of writing this song is because I didn’t know what this was.”

When GYMSHORTS lead singer Sarah Greenwell was diagnosed with P.M.D.D (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder), she decided to do what she does best: Write a song that makes her laugh. What she didn’t expect was that the song would resonate with so many people.

Episode 1
THE VAUGHNS
(Bushwick)

“I told my boss I quit and then we went and just bought a Neil”

For Anna Lies and Ryan Kenter, who together make up the New Jersey-bred band The Vaughns, buying their tour van Neil, named for its previous owner, signaled a departure from their past lives and a headfirst dive into taking music seriously.
